Tasty Tuesday – 1/22/13

Green is GOOD!  It’s important to get enough Greens in our diet.  A healthy diet is plant-based and is optimal for clear skin, renewed energy, and weight loss.  What about the “Green Smoothie?”

Have you tried one?

Have you tried one?

I’ll admit, when I first saw this and was told to try it, I thought people were crazy.  I know I am a sight eater.  If it doesn’t looked good, chances are I probably won’t want to eat it.  So this Green drink, even though I don’t have anything against the color green…..I wasn’t so sure about it.

Here’s what you need;

1 1/2 cups water
1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
3-4 stalks organic celery
1/2 head of a large bunch or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon

  1. Add water and chopped head of romaine & spinach to blender. Blend at a low speed until smooth.
  2. Add celery, apple, and pear and blend at high speed.
  3. Finish with banana and lemon.

Make sure to blend well.

This smoothie helps you eat far more greens than most people normally do. Because we blend the greens and fruit for easy digestion, your body is able to absorb more of the vitamins and minerals without working so hard. Thanks to all its nutrients and fiber, the smoothie is incredibly filling, so it keeps you from reaching for that mid-morning snack that you don’t really want.

My thoughts, I can get it down.  You don’t taste the spinach so that’s a bonus.  I can’t say I’m a huge fan of them yet but with all the “Greens” I’m getting, I am going to try and drink these more often.

Tasty Tuesday – 1/15/13

Welcome to our new Tasty Tuesday’s!  On Tuesdays we will be bringing you lots of information about FOOD!  Everything from recipes, what to eat-what not to eat, do & don’ts when cooking, to meal planning and family friendly clean eating.  I personally am very excited about the postings for Tuesdays.  There’s lots of information out there to share.

To kick this “new” subject off this week, we are going to share some information about Smoothies.  We are big fans of them.  They can be very healthy, filling, and easy.  Not only are they great meal replacements, they are awesome for people of all ages including kids.  I found a really good picture that helps “build” a great smoothie.
